State-appointed monitors in the East Ramapo Central School District are receiving more power from the governor.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation to allow them to overrule or veto school board decisions that violate state laws or fail to follow the district’s improvement plan.

State Sen. Elijah Reichlin-Melnick says it’s a milestone for East Ramapo children and families deprived of high-quality public education.

The legislation is in effect until June 2025.
