A former Uber driver accused of kidnapping a customer to run up her fare pleaded guilty Monday in White Plains federal court.
Habir Pamar was tight-lipped leaving court, but inside courthouse the 25-year-old from Queens admitted to kidnapping a White Plains woman he picked up in Manhattan last February. Pamar admitted to attempting to drive to Massachusetts while she was asleep in an effort to run up her fare.
Prosecutors say the woman woke up when they were in Connecticut and that Pamar was in the back seat fondling her.
The passenger demanded to go to a police station, but instead he took her phone and dropped her off on the side of the road. He continued to drive to Massachusetts alone and billed the woman for the ride.
On Monday, he told the judge he was sorry for the people he hurt, and that he did it because he was experiencing financial hardship.
Pamar will remain on home detention until June when he is sentenced. He faces up to nine years in prison.
