The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for New York City Tuesday after temperatures topped 90 degrees.
Though most residents say they enjoyed the heat after weeks of rain and below average temperatures, experts say elderly people and young children should be careful when temperatures and humidity levels are high.
According to experts, to avoid a heat-related illness, residents should avoid strenuous outdoor activity, drink plenty of water and refrain from spending too much time outdoors. Residents should also wear sunscreen if outside and keep young children in the shade.
