The American Cancer Society kicked off its Breast Cancer Awareness Month event Friday in Westport.
The event was held at Maserati of Westport.
Among those in attendance was 10-year breast cancer survivor Cari Shapiro.
"This event is very important to me because it's very important to raise money for this cause and beat breast cancer once and for all," Shapiro says.
The American Cancer Society says its month-long campaign is so important now more than ever.
From the Real Men Wear Pink effort to Westport's finest patrolling in pink, the community is coming together to show their support.
Town officials say the annual 'Making Strides Against Breast Cancer' event will also still take place, but just on a smaller scale with a drive-thru car parade around Sherwood Island State Park on Oct. 25.
