Thirty kids from Bridgeport are heading to Cleveland this week for one of the biggest events in the NBA -- All-Star weekend.
This is all thanks to a grant from the American Rescue Plan, which is giving the Village Initiative Project, or VIP Program, the amazing opportunity.
"I am glad to get the children, the students, the young men out of Bridgeport to escape and to get our minds off the violence,” says Teresa Wilson, with the Village Initiative Project.
The nonprofit college preparatory initiative helps kids get into some of the best colleges and universities across the country, producing many superstars along the way. They will be leaving Wednesday night for Cleveland.
"I've always dreamed of going to an NBA game, but I never had the money to go - and this is just a blessing, to be honest, from God,” says Central High School junior Tim Graham.
The kids are keeping their fingers crossed, hoping to maybe bump into LeBron James or Kevin Durant.
