Gov. Mikie Sherrill ordered NJ Transit to come up with a rapid action plan to improve the agency and commuter experience in March.
News 12 got a look on Tuesday at some of the improvements that have already been made.

“New Jersey is the most innovative and dynamic state in the country. We should have a public transit system that reflects that,” said Gov. Sherrill.
By the end of the year, the governor says there will be 250 new buses and 40 new trains equipped with Wi-Fi added to the fleet.
A new and improved NJ Transit app hit the online stores, featuring a one-stop shop showing all the alerts systemwide on trains and buses.
“Look at that! Wow! Taxpayer money being put to good use! I love it,” said an excited Ashley Feliciano after downloading the update.
“When the FIFA tickets go live tonight, this is the app you’ll be able to buy tickets with,” said NJ Transit president and CEO Kris Kolluri.
Still in the works is a changeover to GPS tracking on all trains and buses to be made available on the updated app. No more guessing when or if your train will arrive on time or at all.
“I promised to build a better system with improved rider experience. We are already delivering,” said Gov. Sherrill.
“Definitely trains need to be more on time. Gotta think about people who get to work, come home,” said Erroll Wilson, of Newark.
Plans call for the creation of a real time crime center, showing what stations and areas will need more lighting and cameras to improve rider experience. No fare increases are planned this year to fund upgrades.
“I had no idea. I didn’t update my app! I’m really bad at updating my apps. Thank you for showing me,” said Feliciano.
