A Honduran national was charged with a violent rape and assault of a stranger outside an Amityville restaurant, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.

Jose Ignacio Bonilla Garcia is accused of raping an unconscious man behind the dumpster of Esperanza Deli Café and viciously beating him when he tried to resist.

“Accountability for perpetrators of sexual violence is not just a legal obligation, but also a moral one,” said District Attorney Tierney. “My office will do everything in its power to ensure that those who commit such heinous acts are held accountable, not just for the sake of justice, but to protect others and to send a clear message that these crimes will not be tolerated in Suffolk County."

According to the investigation, Garcia first met the victim at the café around noon on March 27. About four hours later, they left and had a conversation outside.

The victim suddenly fell to the ground drunk and was allegedly dragged by Garcia behind the dumpster and raped.

During the accused rape, the victim regained consciousness and tried to fight off Garcia, but he was punched and beaten with a piece of wood until he was unresponsive.

After the assault, Garcia left the man "bloodied and battered," the District Attorney's Office wrote.

The victim was found hours later by a delivery driver, who called 911.

Surveillance footage recovered by investigators captured the whole alleged rape and assault.

While Suffolk County police and the District Attorney's Office were working to identify and find Garcia, it was discovered he got on a Greyhound bus.

U.S. Marshals in Rosenberg, Texas caught him while he was heading to the southern border.

He was captured and extradited back to Suffolk County.

He was arraigned Monday and charged with two counts of rape and assault.
