It's school budget season, and some districts have big plans that could be taxing for homeowners.

The Shelter Island, Bayport-Blue Point, Uniondale and Lynbrook school districts are looking to pierce the tax cap.

That means overriding the property tax levy and higher costs for homeowners.

But many aren't sure how much it can cost them. One way you can find out is by attending your school budget meeting.

It was back in 2012 when New York state passed that law requiring a super-majority for budgets that pierce the tax cap. That means it needs 60% of the vote to pass.
