You may have heard about the Masked Singer – but what about the Masked Reader?

Students at Clayton Huey Elementary School in Center Moriches got to put their detective skills to the test to find out which teachers have been reading to them all month.

The big reveal is the grand finale of the school’s March Madness Reading Challenge. Student teams competed to see who could read the most books.

A class of third graders took home the gold.

“Reading is really good for you and it’s one of the favorite things to do,” says student Kayla.

“They were so excited to hear books and just talk about books…and that’s really what we wanted to do,” says Principal Dr. Nicole Fernandez.

School leaders say students logged 147,000 reading minutes this year. Next year, they are aiming for 200,000.
