The only way to find out how long security lines are at Newark Liberty International Airport is to show up.

Security wait times are no longer listed on the airport’s website. Instead, the site notes that “wait times are subject to rapid change based on passenger volumes and TSA staffing” and says wait time reporting has been temporarily suspended. Travelers must be in-person at the airport for accurate wait times.

Across the country, mass call-outs by TSA agents are leading to very long lines and missed flights.

In response to the staffing shortage, President Donald Trump ordered ICE agents to airports, including Newark.

That brought U.S. Sen. Cory Booker to Newark Liberty.

“New Yorkers are building their businesses as food vendors when Mohamed Orabi allegedly took advantage of their limited knowledge of local regulations to scam them out of thousands of dollars,” District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg said in a statement.

Homeland Security Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said, “This pointless, reckless shutdown of our homeland security workforce has caused more than 400 TSA officers to quit and thousands to call out from work because they are not able to afford gas, childcare, food or rent.”

Workers will miss their second paycheck this coming weekend if the partial government shutdown continues.
