Four-term Assemblyman Nader Sayegh told News 12's senior political reporter Tara Rosenblum that he will not seek reelection later this year.
He says the decision is tied to new income limits that take effect in 2027.
The legislation caps income from outside employment at $35,000 a year for all lawmakers in the state Legislature.
Sayegh, who also runs a personal injury law firm in Yonkers, described the decision to leave public life as extremely difficult.
"It's very tough," he says. "I took office in November of 2018, and I did so really largely as a lifelong educator concerned about the status of the state funding formula that I really felt was unfair for school districts like Yonkers."
Sayegh, a Democrat, says he will serve out the remainder of his term representing the 90th Assembly District through the end of the year.
