NJ Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill meets with Murphy to talk transition of power

Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill was at the Statehouse in Trenton, one day after securing victory in the election.
She was meeting with Gov. Phil Murphy to talk about the transition of power.
The two met inside Murphy’s office, which will soon be Sherrill's after she is sworn in on Jan. 1.
Following that meeting, Sherrill spoke with the media about her plans as governor, which she says will have a focus on driving down costs and making life easier for people in New Jersey.
She said that on Day 1, she will be declaring a state of emergency to freeze utility costs.
Sherrill will also be reaching out to President Donald Trump to push back on tariff’s, which are hurting businesses in-state and to push to restart funding for the Gateway tunnel project.
“Taking on some of what we see coming from Washington because it’s driving up prices everywhere putting people out of business stopping the economic growth of our community,” says Sherill.
She also took a moment to reflect on how she won the election, specifically mentioning good turnout in her favor in some urban areas, like Newark and Passaic, as well as suburban areas her opponent commanded four years ago.
“To see that we had won Gloucester, we won Morris County I mean that was pretty seismic. I think Jack won both those counties by 11 points last time he ran.
What I saw is that our message is resonating,” said Sherril.
Sherrill also said she’ll be focusing on schools and reducing the “bloat” of administrations, which can bring down property taxes.
She says that includes people and old school buildings.
Sherrill also named her Lt. Gov.-elect, Dr. Dale Caldwell and Kellie Duccette to lead the transition and hiring of staff which will make up her administration.
