Long Islanders look to stay cool during extreme heat

A heat advisory is in effect through 8 PM Wednesday.

If getting in the water is your idea of staying cool when the mercury rises, there are plenty of options available.

New York state announced extended swimming hours at state parks, such as Jones Beach and Robert Moses through Wednesday.

Also, the Town of Huntington made its splash parks and Dix Hills pool free to residents during the higher temperatures.

Doctors News 12 spoke with said that even in the water, it's important to limit your exposure to the sun, and simply wearing sunscreen may not be enough. They advise hydrating before, during, and after anytime outside.
