Council Member Mercedes Narcisse, the Haitian-American nurse-turned-council member representing District 46, is hoping voters give her a second term.

Narcisse has represented the district, which includes parts of Canarsie, Marine Park and Sheepshead Bay, since 2022.

She says her background in health care informs her approach to public service and policymaking.

“I’m working every day for my community to make it better,” Narcisse said.

During her time in office, she says she has prioritized long-standing issues her constituents care about, including gun violence.

Narcisse says she secured $1.6 million in funding to address the crisis and has worked closely with families affected by shootings.

“Gun violence doesn’t occur in silos,” she said. “It’s a combination of issues, like housing and food inequity, that need to be addressed together.”

She says she’s proud of her hands-on approach, whether that means attending community events, supporting food pantries, or advocating for more city resources.

“When you give your word, that’s what you have,” Narcisse said. “My word is my passport.”

Narcisse is now facing challengers in her reelection campaign, but says she’s committed to continuing her work at City Hall.
