This evening, stargazers in New Jersey will have the opportunity to see a rare planetary alignment, with most of the planets visible in the night sky at the same time.

According to Mike Shanahan, planetarium director at Liberty Science Center, the best time to see as many planets as possible with the naked eye is just after sunset over the next couple of weeks.

"It's happening every night. All you need is clear weather, As cold as it is, we have really nice clear weather…to see the entire set of four planets.”

Shanahan notes while Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Venus should be visible with naked eye, a telescope or binoculars will be necessary to see Uranus and Neptune. He also says that all the planets will not be perfectly aligned, as that only happens once every 400 billion years.
