NYC Park's Department reveals methods used to exterminate rats

The Park's Department says it uses ice and smoke to eradicate rats.
Adon Berishaj, the supervisor for Bronx Parks, says teams of exterminators visit the borough's parks weekly and search for rat burrows.
"You know, rats love to dig in and make their nests in the dirt," said Berishaj.

"rat ice," which is carbon dioxide - or smoke, which is carbon monoxide.
They say the ice or smoke goes into the hole, and it's covered. The exterminators say both strategies trap and kill rats painlessly.
The Park's Department says while the extermination is happening in all parks across the borough, "rat hotspots" are a priority.
Berishaj says those include the following:
Community Board 4: Highbridge, Concourse, Mount Eden and Concourse Village
Community Board 5: Fordham, University Heights, Morris Heights, Bathgate and Mount Hope
Community Board 6: Belmont, Bathgate, West Farms, East Tremont, and Bronx Park South
