Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim and City Council members gathered on Friday to announce a new squash center that will be built on Main Street.

The SquashBridge Community facility will be run by the Squash and Education Alliance – a network of 25 nonprofit organizations.

It will have eight indoor courts, one outdoor steel court and three classrooms.

“This will be a place where students and staff from our network gather for conferences, for training camps, for learning opportunities, for other gatherings,” said Tim Wyant, the executive director of SEA.

Wyant said the project will begin construction in a few weeks and has been almost 10 years in the making.
