Two firefighters were injured in a fire in Mount Vernon.
Deputy Fire Chief Jim Lang, with the Mount Vernon Fire Department, says calls came in at around 8 p.m. Monday for a fire at 745 South 3rd Ave. in Mount Vernon.
People watched from police tape as crews worked to put out the blaze.
The fire happened in a former Salvation Army building which, at this time, is condemned and is being demolished, according to Lang.
"When we arrived on scene, we found a large pile of the building material on fire on the exterior. There was no extension to the interior. The fire was contained to the outside," said Lang.
He added that two firefighters were transported to hospital by EMS after sustaining minor injuries.
