Police have identified the 11-year-old girl killed after being hit by a school bus in Bath Beach as Amira Aminova.

The crash happened just after 3 p.m. Thursday at 23rd and Bath avenues, according to New York City Police Department.

Investigators say a 2018 Blue Bird school bus was traveling south on 23rd Avenue and making a right turn onto Bath Avenue when it struck Amira as she crossed Bath Avenue in a marked crosswalk.

Police say she suffered severe injuries to her head and body.

EMS rushed her to Maimonides Medical Center, but she did not survive.

Authorities say the bus driver, 62-year-old Wawa Aurelus, did not stay at the scene after the crash. Police later arrested him.

He is now charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.

Surveillance video shows Amira walking — then running — across Bath Avenue just moments before she was hit.

Neighbors say this is usually a busy intersection, especially with kids heading home from school. Many people told News 12 they are still in shock.

“As a mother, I’m speechless,” one neighbor said.

Police say Amira lived nearby on 23rd Avenue.

The investigation is ongoing.
