As the number of coronavirus cases continues to rise across Long Island, hospitals are scrambling to deal with the influx of patients.

At Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital, a triage tent was built in two days to help cope with the growing number of patients. The tent is expected to be operational early next week.

Doctors say there are about 20 stretchers and 20 chairs inside the tent. They say anyone who comes to hospital with clear coronavirus symptoms that are mild will not be brought into the emergency room, but rather into the tent.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has projected that as many as 140,000 beds are needed across the state to cope with the crisis.

Stony Brook University Hospital also opened a mobile triage center in its south parking lot on Monday to deal with the influx.

As of Wednesday, there are nearly 31,000 cases of the virus in the state. In Nassau County, there are more than 3,200 and in Suffolk there are more than 2,200 people who have tested positive.
