Thousands of people hit the streets of Norwalk Sunday for the Walk to End Alzheimer's.

About 2,500 people participated in the walk at Calf Pasture Beach, sporting colored pinwheels. Each color has a different meaning.

Orange flowers are for supporters, yellow flowers are for caregivers, blue flowers are for people living with the disease and purple flowers are for those who lost someone.

Participants walk about 2 miles down and around the boardwalk.

Several walked as part of a team while others walked alone.

There are 78,000 Connecticut residents living with Alzheimer's disease. There is close to 178,000 caregivers -- many of them family members.

The ultimate goal is to raise money to find a cure, to advance research and to show people they are not alone.
