Another staff member within Yonkers Public Schools has tested positive for COVID-19.
The latest case was reported Wednesday at School 9.
This is the fourth case of COVID-19 within the Yonkers school district this week with positive cases reported at the Yonkers Early Childhood Academy, the Vive School, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy.
District officials say in the case at School 9, the infected staff member observed all workplace COVID-19 protocols. They also say the person had very limited exposure to other staff. According to district officials, they now have had 10 positive cases among staffers. All students are still learning from home.
But as school administrators point out, it's important to remember that on a daily basis, approximately 4,000 employees and contractors come into the schools. Yonkers is the fourth largest school district in New York state.
School 9 will remain open and the building was to be cleaned overnight with additional sanitizing done in the areas where the staff member spent time.
Despite this week's positive COVID-19 cases, school officials tell News 12 the district is still on track to begin hybrid learning on Oct. 5.
Like many parents, Hayley Mills, of Yonkers, is trying to juggle her job at a preschool in the Bronx and her two daughters’ current routines. She says the positive cases are a concern. "It's definitely a worry, I worry too[about] going to work." Meanwhile Mills' daughters, 10-year-old Angilie and 5-year-old Gabby, say they can't wait to get back to the classroom and have very strong opinions about coronavirus. "I think this whole virus thing is stupid!" says Gabby. "I think this virus is going to be forever!" says Angilie.
