Tenants blame management for elevator death

Tenants in Riverdale say the managers of a building should be held responsible after a visually impaired man fell into an elevator shaft and died.
City inspectors have said the April 30 accident at 25 Knolls Crescent was caused by a faulty mechanical device used to prevent a manual door from opening when the elevator isn't present on a floor.
The medical examiner's office has also called the death an accident. However, some residents at the housing complex say the management company should be liable for the death of 67-year-old Sheldon Scott.
"This is the management's fault this happened," says David Davis.
The management company has expressed its sympathies over Scott's death and says it is cooperating with an NYPD investigation.
