Malls across Mid-Hudson region reopen today with hygiene and social distance guidelines
Today is the day shoppers and business owners have anxiously been waiting for as malls in the Mid-Hudson Region are opening.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says that in order for malls to open today, the buildings must have installed air filters that remove coronavirus particles from the air.
Officials from the Pyramid Management Group, owner of the Palisades Center in Nyack, say they have the air filter system and are ready to go.
In addition, there will also be hygiene and social distance guidelines that shoppers will have to follow:
- Capacity has to be limited to 50%
- Face coverings and social distancing protocols are required
- Common seating areas, including at food courts, are closed
- There is one way traffic arrows for people to follow
- There will also be signs listing all the safety guidelines for shoppers to see
Rockland County officials say the Palisades Center has over 225 businesses which employ nearly 5,000 people. In 2019, the Palisades Center paid $21.4 million in property taxes and generated over $22 million in local sales tax revenue. Mall officials say they aren’t sure if all the stores will be open.
