A local postal worker is helping those in his community who are struggling to make ends meet.
Brad Jasper, a Yonkers mail carrier, launched a Facebook fundraiser to help feed families in need after noticing someone who lives on his mail route on line to receive a food donation.
Using his Facebook page and #Singforone'sSupper on social media, Jasper raised more than $7,300 in just 12 hours. He estimates that equals nearly 88,000 pounds of food for those in need in Westchester and beyond.
"You'd be surprised to find out that in nice areas, well-off communities, there are people that are food insecure," says Jasper.
When coronavirus concerns caused the postponement of this year's National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, Jasper says he knew he had to help.
"With the stay-at-home orders and unemployment rising, it's getting harder for people to have clean nutritious food. On my route, there's a food pantry and I've seen the line getting longer and longer," he says.
The money raised goes to Feeding America, a national charity that also benefits Feeding Westchester.
