As first responders and health care workers across the city work tirelessly to battle the coronavirus, Beat the Bomb in Dumbo created a virtual video game in an effort to raise money for NYC Health + Hospitals with their “Beat the Virus” campaign.
The game “Fauci’s Revenge” shows Dr. Anthony Fauci, a key advisor on national health crises, work to prevent the spread of the coronavirus by shooting laser from his eyes to kill the disease.
"We wanted to create something that could bring people enjoyment and fun in their homes. Beat the Bomb is a game that requires everybody to work together to succeed and that's what society's going through right now, and so anything that any of us can do to make it easier for the people on the front lines, I think that's our moral obligation,” said Alex Patterson, founder of Beat the Bomb.
“There are icons dropping from the top of the screen that represents things that are good and things that are bad. So right now things that are bad are things like crowds or going to the club, and then things that are good are things like hand washing, hand sanitizer," said Patterson.
The game can be accessed on a laptop or desktop computer. Links to a GoFundMe account was created by Patterson, where he says 100% of the proceeds go to the hospital system.
He’s raised over $3,000 with a goal of raising $25,000. He says he’s also donated thousands of protective suits and gloves to the city, as well as face shields to Columbia Irving’s Medical Center.
“It feels really good just to be able to help out and do something positive in this really tough time,” said Patterson.
For anyone who wins the game, Patterson says he is offering free tickets to the Beat The Bomb escape room once it’s open again.
