A police-involved shooting broke out after a man was seen walking with a knife in the Bronx Wednesday morning.

Police responded to calls of a man with a knife at the corner of Zerega and Westchester avenues around 4 a.m.

Police from the 45th Precinct say they saw what appeared to be a knife and a fire arm. They ordered the 55-year-old man to release his weapons, but he refused, lunging at officers.

After multiple attempts, the man continued to threaten the officers. This is when police say they opened fire and struck the man in the torso. The man was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in stable condition.

The weapons were recovered on scene. 

News 12 is told the suspect also called 911, stating that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

No officers were injured, and charges are pending.
