‘Put it in the garbage:' Protective gloves, masks seen discarded all over grocery store parking lots

Many people across New Jersey are wearing protective gloves and masks while grocery shopping, but unfortunately, those same gloves and masks are winding up on the ground instead of trash cans.

Many people across New Jersey are wearing protective gloves and masks while grocery shopping, but unfortunately, those same gloves and masks are winding up on the ground instead of trash cans.

In just about every parking lot, each day, more and more of the protective items can be seen just thrown on the ground, which is upsetting to a lot of people.
It’s something the East Brunswick Police Department have noticed as well.

“We've noticed a high volume of shopping centers, including the ShopRite and Stop & Shop, people discarded their gloves and their N95 masks on the ground,” says Lt. Frank Sutter. “If we're going to take universal precautions, you need to just take those and put it in the garbage. If people just actually picked them up, they would be exposing others to the virus as well."
Part of this is very basic politeness and responsibility: pick up after yourself, especially when dealing with something such as protective gloves and masks.
