USNS Comfort will be getting its first patients today.
The Navy hospital ship docked in New York Harbor Monday morning.
The vessel has 1,000 beds, but will only treat non-coronavirus patients with the hope of reducing capacity in New York hospitals.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says no single hospital can tackle the crisis alone.
Along with a call for cooperation between public and private hospitals, he is also asking for more hands on deck. "In this battle, the troops are health care professionals. Those are the troops who are fighting this battle for us. We need to recruit more health care workers. We need to share health care professionals," says Cuomo.
The governor is looking at other states for those workers and is promising to return the favor in their hour of need.
