O&R: No gas or electric shutoffs during coronavirus pandemic

Posted: Updated:

Orange & Rockland Utilities has announced new efforts to protect customers and workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

The utility says it is halting the reading and installation of smart meters, stopping gas and electric shutoffs because of missed payments, and is closing customer walk-in centers.

O & R field employees are also working in smaller groups while administrators are working from home.

"We found that these are things that would reduce the anxiety level of our customers as much as we could. We're finding things as we go through this process that's why we're able to adjust our processes to, so people are not inconvenienced or upset," says Mike Donovan, Orange & Rockland spokesman.

O and R asks if you have a service appointment, to let them know if someone is quarantined or sick by calling them at (877)434-4100.
