Closing arguments in East Ramapo voting rights trial to be done via teleconference

Posted: Updated:

Closing arguments in the East Ramapo voting rights trial begin today in White Plains Federal Court.

However, there will be a social distancing twist to today’s procedures - the arguments before District Court Judge Cathy Seibel will be via teleconference.

The lawsuit was filed by the Spring Valley Branch of the NAACP and challenges the current at large set-up of electing school board members.

The group favors a switch to a ward system, which they say would increase the number of minorities on the board.

It will be up to Judge Seibel to decide the case herself.
