Feeding Westchester stages drive-through emergency food distribution

While much life as we know it has nearly comes to a halt, organizations are in overdrive trying to help families out of work because of the coronavirus.

Thanks to Feeding Westchester on Clearbrook Road in Elmsford, a drive-through emergency food distribution effort is taking place.

The process is simple. Families drive up into the parking lot and volunteers drop a box of food into the car. That’s it - fast and with limited contact, which is good for both volunteers and families coming for assistance.

Feeding Westchester knows people are out of work and struggling, while others are just afraid to go to the supermarket. Representatives say that’s what motivated the organization to initiate today’s drive-through.

Care packages include staples like milk, yogurt, pasta and rice.

“People are struggling and afraid. I had issues prior to this. My significant other had a stroke. Thank God we left the hospital before stuff hit the fan. So people are already struggling so this is very appreciated,” says one recipient.

This emergency food pickup runs through 2 p.m. today and tomorrow from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. If all goes well, Feeding Westchester says the drive-throughs will continue.
