Surveillance video shows the moment a driver slammed into a woman in Elmont, leaving her in a medically induced coma.
Ciera Martin says she is still shaken up nearly a week after watching her mother get hit. Relatives say the crash happened Saturday, and since then, Josefina Jose has been at NYU Winthrop Hospital in Mineola.
"She was unconscious on the floor, she wasn't breathing, saying anything to me, and she just started bleeding," says Martin.
According to police, the victim was struck at the corner of Hempstead Turnpike and Evans Avenue in Elmont. Martin says surveillance video from a nearby business shows the car that slammed into her mom.
"You could hear the gas of the car, like vroom, really hard, and he just kept going," says Martin.
The family says Jose is in the ICU right now in a medically induced coma. They say her injuries include multiple facial fractures and swelling of the brain.
Anthony Martin, Jose's son, says he has spent every night by her side since the crash. As they pray for a quick recovery, the family is also hoping police can track down the driver who left her in the street.
"You have no heart, man. You have no heart," says Anthony Martin. "I want justice, and I want a full recovery for my mom."
Anyone with information in relation to the case is asked to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
