Police in South Brunswick have caught and identified the man they say used a fake $100 bill to purchase gasoline at a local gas station.

The incident happened at the Exxon Station at Route 27 and New Road.

According to police, Thaimu Kargbo, 20, of Montgomery Township, is responsible for two incidents late last year in which he pulled into the gas station and left without paying.

"The first one he had pulled in to obtain fuel and then left without paying," says Detective Bryan Sites. "The second one was the passing of the $100 bill."

Police used surveillance video and were able to track down the suspect, who told them he was surprised the station attendant accepted the bill.

Police say the fake bill incident took place on Christmas Day, while the leaving without paying took place just after Thanksgiving.

Kargbo is free on his own recognizance, but will soon have his day in court.
