Officials unveiled phase one of what they're calling a "renaissance" in Hicksville.

What was once vacant commercial space has been turned into new apartments and a shared office space. It's just the first project to be completed as part of a face-lift for the town.

"This will bring prosperity. It meets the needs of young people, with a vibrant downtown and very short walk across the street to the railroad station," says Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino.

Officials say future projects will focus on making it easier for residents to "get around." The work is being paid for with $10 million in state funding.

The MTA is also spending $132 million to improve the town's train station.
