Gun advocates plan to sue Rockland County for denying concealed carry pistol permits

Posted: Updated:

Second Amendment advocates are planning to sue Rockland County for allegedly denying concealed carry pistol permits for some residents.

Members of the Orthodox Jewish community, veterans and Second Amendment advocates claim judges in Rockland continue to deny pistol permit requests, calling the practice unconstitutional.

Following the Monsey stabbings on Hanukkah, the County Clerk's Office saw a huge spike in pistol permit applications.

The application is the first step in a months-long process, including fingerprinting, background checks and firearms training.

Rockland County responded to the potential lawsuit saying, "Other than the processing of applications of this type by the County Clerk's Office, the matter of conceal carry permits rests entirely with the judiciary, not the County administration. As such, we will have no further comment."
