Ex-prison worker released from Bedford prison 5 years after helping convicted killers escape

The seamstress serving time at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility in Westchester County for smuggling supplies to help prisoners escape has been released.

Joyce Mitchell helped two killers escape the maximum-security Clinton Correctional Facility five years ago.

Mitchell was sentenced to 2 ? to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to helping Richard Matt and David Sweat escape from the Dannemora prison. She admitted smuggling in hacksaw blades and other tools for the two inmates, as well as having a romantic relationship with one of them.

The story was the focus of a Showtime miniseries “Escape at Dannemora.”
