Who will replace Rep. Lowey? Power and Politics: Race for the 17th

Posted: Updated:

A highly competitive race for office is heating up in the Hudson Valley.

After three decades representing Westchester and Rockland counties, Rep. Nita Lowey announced her retirement last fall, and the campaigns to be her replacement in the 17th congressional district started immediately.

Lowey was first elected to Congress in 1988, and then won 15 consecutive elections. She ultimately became the first woman to ever lead the powerful House Appropriations Committee.

Some of the people who have thrown their hats into the ring are familiar names but others, most in fact, are political newcomers.

On Wednesday evening, News 12’s Tara Rosenblum will host a special edition of Power and Politics that will feature the packed slate of candidates duking it out in one the most competitive congressional races in the country.

Power and Politics: Race for the 17th airs Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
