Cardinal Dolan blesses Port Chester Pre-K program

Posted: Updated:

Archbishop of New York Timothy Cardinal Dolan made a special visit to a school in Port Chester this morning.

Corpus Christi Holy Rosary School is celebrating its new universal pre-K program that opened in September.

About 200 students are currently enrolled at the school.

The formerly vacant building was transformed this past summer after being selected for a $2 million open bid process to search for universal pre-K vendors. "Starting young, you get them structured and set up for their future, it's better than a day care where they play all day.  Here she actually learns how to socialize with her peers, how to play with her peers, how to be respectful," says Chevonne Washington, of Port Chester.

Cardinal Dolan took time during a ceremony to bless the students, teachers and faculty of the remodeled school and the new universal pre-K program. "It's amazing to see these classrooms, how creatively they're able to use play and sound, and color and writing and activities to teach," says Cardinal Dolan.
