Sen. Warren endorses Spring Valley man for 17th Congressional district

A presidential hopeful is endorsing a candidate for New York's 17th Congressional district.

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D) is backing Mondaire Jones for Nita Lowey's old seat.

Jones, from Spring Valley, was the first of several people to announce his candidacy.

The Democrat is an attorney who worked in the Justice Department during the Obama administration.

If elected, he will make history as America’s first black gay congressman.

In a statement, Sen. Warren announced her support. "With Mondaire in Congress, we'll gain another chance to achieve the hard-fought wins that bring us closer to big, structural change, and I'm glad to stand with him."
