Port Jervis group seeks justice for slain infant found abandoned

Posted: Updated:

Months have passed, but heartbroken people in Port Jervis have not forgotten about a baby who was found deceased, frozen and abandoned by the child’s mother in November on Hornbeck Avenue.

Leah Pantone started a Facebook page with more than 100 followers – dedicated to the unresolved case and seeing the baby's mother held accountable.

Police say they are waiting on test results to confirm whether or not the child was born alive, before filing charges against the mother. Those results were expected by late December.

However, Pantone told News 12 that they have “heard nothing” from police.

Police know who the child's mother is and were seen going in and out of a house just a few doors down from where the newborn was found. They have not released a name or said anything about how the newborn, found naked with its umbilical cord still attached, may have died.

"This poor baby deserves justice, deserves for the story to be told," said Pantone.
