Landlord from Rockland County sentenced for deadly 2015 gas explosion

Posted: Updated:

A Rockland County woman was sentenced Friday to up to 12 years in prison for her involvement in a deadly explosion in Manhattan’s East Village.

The explosion, which killed two men in 2015, was caused by an illegally installed gas line at a building owned by 59-year-old Maria Hrynenko.

The Palisades woman is one of three people sentenced Friday. An unlicensed plumber and a contractor also received up to 12 years in prison for completing a job before electric, gas and steam service Con Edison could approve the work onsite.
