Former federal prosecutor Adam Schleifer vies for Rep. Lowey’s congressional seat

Posted: Updated:

Former federal prosecutor Adam Schleifer is the latest person to join the crowded race for Rep. Nita Lowey’s congressional seat.

He spoke with News 12’s Tara Rosenblum for his first sitdown interview since throwing his hat in the race for the 17th Congressional District.

Schleifer, a 38-year-old Democrat and Horace Greeley graduate, worked in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles, where he went after drug lords, polluters and Ponzi schemers.  He even played a role in the college admission scandal investigation involving celebrities like fellow northern Westchester native Felicity Huffman.

The first-time candidate is the eldest son of Leonard Scheifer, the founder and CEO of Regeneron, one of the world’s most important pharmaceutical companies.

Schleifer says his grandfather, who immigrated to the United States after losing his entire family during the Holocaust, was his hero and showed him what perseverance looks like.

Schleifer will square off against at least nine other candidates in the Democratic primary. One Republican is also running for Lowey’s seat.

Tara Rosenblum will be featuring all of the candidates in a special edition of Power and Politics on Feb. 5.
