Internet threat puts Middletown schools on lockoutPosted: Updated:
An internet threat put two Orange County schools on lockout Monday.
Middletown school officials say Monhagen Middle School received the internet threat around 11:10 a.m.
School administrators put emergency procedures into effect while the police and staff investigated. Police do not believe the threat was credible.
The school's dismissal was delayed, impacting the afternoon bus schedule throughout the district.
As a precaution, Maple Hill Elementary School was also on lockout. The lockout there has since been lifted.
In a statement, the school says it is putting safety first. "Our first priority is to ensure the safety of scholars and staff. As soon as possible, we will provide you with as much accurate information as we can. Communication with parents during an emergency is critically important, but our first concern is the safety and well-being of our scholars and staff. Please be patient and understand if we are unable to respond to you as completely and quickly as you would like," the statement says.
