Consumer Reports: Beware of online shopping scams

On the heels of Cyber Monday, shoppers are being warned of potential scams while scoring those hot online deals this holiday season. 

Experts say even veteran cyber shoppers are now falling for online scams.

That's because the technology to make fake product pictures and phony websites is more sophisticated.

Experts at Consumer Reports in Yonkers say don’t click on links for sales you see in pop-up ads, emails, or on social media sites without doing a search to see if the sale even exists. “The link could take you to one of these scam websites, but there might be an attachment in there that could put malware on your device if you click on it," says Bree Fowler, Consumer Reports digital security editor.

According to a recent report, 1 in 10 Americans is the victim of fraud every year, with the majority of them falling for online shopping scams. scams.
