Refreezing snow to cause slick roadways today

Posted: Updated:

The snow may be over but the Hudson Valley will have to deal with slick roads for most of the day.

New 12 meteorologists say temperatures will be in the upper 30s but a 10-20 mph wind will make it feel like it is in the teens or 20s for most of the day.

The cold temperatures will cause refreezing of moisture on the ground and create black ice situations in many areas. Side roads in many areas north and west of I-287 and upper elevations might also still have significant snow on them.

Snowfall accumulations were between 1-4” in most areas of Westchester, 3-6" in Rockland/Putnam, and 6-10" in Orange, Dutchess, Ulster.

There will be sun at some points today, but officials caution that any melting snow will likely refreeze tonight.
