NYPD steps up security in Times Square after bomb threat

Posted: Updated:

The NYPD and state police are stepping up security in Times Square after a bomb threat was posted on social media.

Officials say someone claimed on Reddit they were bringing two pounds of explosives to the crossroads of America.

The NYPD says the threat does not appear to be credible, but has stepped up patrols out of an abundance of caution.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says a coordinated investigation effort by numerous agencies is underway  “There is no indication that this threat is credible, but with that said, state police will be on the ground working with NYPD and partners to step up patrols in the area during the day," Cuomo stated.
