For 20 years, one group has been helping those experiencing homelessness in the Bronx and beyond.
“Picture the Homeless” is an organization committed to getting the homeless help.
Organizers say the cause is near and dear to their hearts, as many of them were once in need of shelter.
“Years ago, when I was in the men's homeless shelter, I came across a flyer and it said, ‘Picture the Homeless,’” says Marcus Moore.

Moore credits "Picture the Homeless" with connecting him to programs and training that got them back on their feet.
What started as a grassroots civil rights group two decades ago is now a network teaching the most vulnerable about housing and educational options too.
With many of those who receive guidance from the organization ultimately getting involved in giving back themselves.

“Throughout our 20 years, we have well over 5,000 members that have come through our doors,” says Moore.

At one point "Picture the Homeless" was based in the Bronx, before moving back to Harlem, but the offices are open to anyone throughout the city in need, and members often return to the borough to do outreach.
They also work to change policy and advocate for legislation, aimed at ending the homeless crisis.

“We reach out to homeless people to assure them that they can get uplift their own voice in getting the things that they need,” says Moore.
