Police: Mount Vernon police sergeant assaulted woman, tampered with evidence

A Mount Vernon police sergeant is accused of tampering with evidence and assaulting a woman.

Officials say while off-duty in September, Martin Bailey, of Dutchess County, got into a fight with a woman at a home he owns in Mount Vernon.

During the investigation, prosecutors say Bailey tampered with the audio recording of the incident.

Bailey is due back in court in two weeks.

News 12 reached out to the Mount Vernon Police Department for comment.
