Bramson was up against Republican newcomer Brendan Conroy, who is a real estate broker and former assistant assessor for the city of Rye. Conroy is also the grandson of former Gov. Malcolm Wilson.

Conroy said he was running for mayor because he's concerned about the overdevelopment of New Rochelle's downtown.

Bramson, who became mayor in 2006, said it's not about how long you have been in office but rather what you've done during your term. He said the city has made extraordinary strides under his administration, and he's proud of the direction the city is moving in.
